How Exposed Are You? is a free, educational site about personal umbrella liability insurance for families with significant assets, and for the advisors who work with them.
What you’ll find here
- An exposure calculator that estimates the assets and future earnings a large judgment could reach, and compares them with an umbrella limit.
- A 1–100 readiness score built from 13 questions, weighted by how serious each gap can be.
- Short, sourced answers to common umbrella questions, such as trusts and LLCs, boats, household staff, teen drivers, board service, and policy lapses.
Independent and non-promotional
The site doesn’t name or promote any insurer, agency, or individual, and it sells nothing. The calculators run entirely in your browser, and what you type into them stays there unless you choose to include your results with a review request.
Educational and illustrative only
For educational and illustrative purposes only. Results are hypothetical estimates based on the numbers you enter. They are not insurance, legal, tax, or financial advice, not a quote, and not a recommendation of any coverage or limit. Coverage depends on the actual policy terms and underwriting.
Everything here is general education. Policy wording differs by insurer and state, and asset protection depends on state law and your circumstances. Each answer cites its sources and shows when it was last reviewed. The calculator math and the checklist weights are published in full on the method page.
How a review works
If you request a review, a licensed insurance professional will follow up to talk through how your umbrella, your underlying home, auto, and watercraft policies, and the way your assets are owned fit together. There is no cost for the review and nothing to buy on this site. See the privacy page for how request details are handled.
